My Delight

When you delight in something in one sense that means that you can’t get enough of it. To delight in someone means that you yearn to spend time with him or her. It means that that person throughout the day penetrates your thoughts. You can’t wait to spend time with them, too engage them in conversation and truly listen what they have to say.

The more you delight in and spend time with this individual the more you truly get to know them. Over time, as you spend more and more time with the one that you delight in, you start to notice yourself becoming like him or her in your mannerisms. You may even begin to notice that your thoughts are often similar, and at times even identical, to theirs

So it is with God. Scripture tells us that that God delights in His creation- you and me. The Bible also makes it clear that God wants us to delight in Him. He wants to have one on one time together with you, and intimate ongoing conversations with you throughout your days. He wants to be your true friend. He wants you to fully know Him just as you are known. He craves a relationship with you on a daily, hourly, and moment-by-moment basis.

Just like spending significant amounts of time with someone causes you to become more like them, spending time with God opens the door to your becoming like Him. As you spend time talking and listening to God He begins to change your desires into the perfect desires that He has for you and then He can’t Help but grant your wishes. Will you delight in the Lord today? He is waiting to abide with you.

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will make your vindication shine like the light, and the justice of your cause like the noonday. Psalm 37:4-6
