A day of fasting and prayer

Today Compassion International is holding a day of fasting and prayer in response to the global food crisis that is silently ransacking the lives of individuals, and families in every nation, on every continent of our globe. In the last year food prices for staple menu items such as rice, wheat, and beans have doubled as a result of rising fuel prices. Since 2005 inflation has increased a startling 80%. While this takes a toll on everyone to some degree, it is the poor that bear the brunt of the pain. Many are being forced to live on no more then a dollar a day;spending upwards of 80% of their household income on food alone. Leaving very few financial recourses left over for anything else.

This has lead to many people, including millions of children going to bed at night with nothing to quench their grumbling stomachers. The longer food prices rise the more people will be plunged into the pit of hunger, starvation, and poverty.

All of us are, to some degree feeling the pinch of the rising fuel, and food prices, but if you find yourself in a place where you are able to spare a small about to feed a family in overwhelming crisis please consider making a contribution to compassion’s food crisis fund.

If you feel led you can join the army of those spending today in fasting and prayer for this critical cause. If you are unable to fast in the traditional fashion I encourage you to find a creative way to join in, or simply pray.

For more information please take a minute to watch this short video. Thank you for your consideration of assisting in this ever-increasing need. May God bless each of you for your concern.

He raises the poor from the dust; He lifts the needy from the ash heap. To make them sit with nobles. And inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S. And He set the world on them. 1 Samuel 2:8
